EDITORIAL
Since the world's greatest historic race meeting takes place just once a year, there's an understandably 'classic' flavour to this week's newsletter.
Steve Wakefield brings us a report on the general goings-on at a gloriously sunny Goodwood, while Tony Dron gives us a taste of the action from his four drives. If you watched the opening laps of the St Mary's Trophy, and witnessed the wheel come off Tony's Ford Zodiac as he was leading the race on full chat through Lavant, you will know he had an eventful Revival...
One unpleasant moment in an otherwise wonderful weekend came when Jochen Mass's Lancia–Ferrari D50A overturned at the chicane and slid backwards, upside–down, before coming to rest on the grass. Happily, Jochen (one of motorsport's most popular and unpretentious heroes) is fine. He later explained that his foot jammed behind a crossbar over the throttle, "so I was braking and accelerating at the same time: quite annoying when approaching a chicane."
As the chin–strap had closed off his windpipe, Jochen forced the helmet over his head without undoing the strap. Bruised and sore he might be; but without serious injury. And his thoughts on the meeting? "It was one of the nicest Revivals in its history; what a difference the weather makes."
Steve Wakefield will be back next week.

The 2008 Goodwood Revival
A decade of delights
It was 1998 when Lord March staged the first, fabulous Revival. Ten years on — with identical glorious weather — the event still manages to surprise and entrance, with the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy Celebration proving to be the finest yet.

Porsche Cayenne GTS
Red giant
You have to pity those clever boffins working on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, near Geneva. Just over 350km away, in Stuttgart, Porsche's engineering team has already found the solution to one of the fundamental questions in physics, and it's called the Cayenne GTS.

This wonderful 'nut and bolt' restored, "numbers matching" RHD 2.7 'S' Coupe has full 'Porsche Cars GB Documentation' and is one of the finest examples in Europe.
First supplied in the UK by AFN, it comes with a vast history file dating back to the 70s, plus a '6in thick' file of invoices, old MOTs, bills, photos and records. With a recent Bob Watson full engine rebuild and a 'bare metal - windows out' professional repaint finished in original Orange, it can only be described as 'truly magical'.
The original 1974 engine, recently rebuilt by Bob Watson, has the same 7R crankcase as the 2.7 RS Carrera. A small fortune has been spent on creating probably the finest 'nut and bolt' restored 1974 2.7 'S' Coupe in Europe.
