EDITORIAL
I've driven a couple of terrific cars this week. As a guest of Porsche at the British Grand Prix, I had the chance of a short run in a PDK-equipped 911. This couldn't possibly merit the phrase 'road test' (in estate agents' vernacular, 'glimpse' would be more apt); however, odd gear-activation in 'manual' issues aside, as an automatic it is superb.
I can't wait to drive the car again on a proper test. Incidentally, the driving was done at Porsche GB's new 'Driving Experience Centre Silverstone', an excellent facility that allows owners to receive instruction on how to get the best out of their cars, as well as demonstrating — in the hands of the experts — the incredible levels of technology built into all modern Porsches.
I left inspecting the 'Porsche Human Performance Centre', an in-house fitness programme, for another time...
The other car was the Maserati Quattroporte S, tested this week on its world launch in the Bavarian Alps. I liked it a lot and you can read all the details below, as you can our take on the Lotus Eco Elise, a car proclaiming its 'green' credentials.
Yes, another one, and I'd be interested to see if you agree with our view of it.
It's the Goodwood Festival and the Le Mans Classic this weekend, so watch out for reviews of both these top-quality events next week on Classic Driver.
