EDITORIAL
They call it genius, and this week I've witnessed an example of some almost supernatural skill manifesting itself in human form. Yes, I was at Brooklands last Saturday to see Lewis Hamilton turn in some demonstration laps in an F1 car and it was mighty impressive.
Let's see what he does this Sunday at Silverstone.
But, ever the sportsman, come Monday I was Wimbledon–bound, at No. 1 Court to see Rafael Nadal power his way into the quarter–finals. It made a change from motor racing and yet, like watching Michael Schumacher at his peak, there were certain similarities: he took things seriously, very seriously; he didn't give his opponent an inch (and he has a house in Mallorca).
The annoying thing is, these guys are so superhuman that I bet Hamilton's not so bad with a Dunlop Maxply, and Rafa could probably turn in a few quick laps at Valencia. After all, wasn't James Hunt a Junior Wimbledon competitor?
The prize money for winning the Wimbledon finals is £750,000. That's a couple of Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupés and a bit of petrol money, so Sunday's victor could head down the A3 towards Goodwood with a view to ordering the latest two-door.
What are the odds on the 2008 Champion reversing our journey in the new Rolls, and driving from the UK back to Switzerland?
