EDITORIAL

I can't quite erase the term 'matched pair' from my mind when reflecting on this week's feature article about two front-engined Ferrari V12s. Of course, strictly speaking it's incorrect; a matched pair of guns means two identical pieces, thus allowing a shooter to maintain a constant rate of fire while their loader replenishes the still-smoking firearm with more ammo.

I think what I'm getting at is that if you were to search for two cars that best summed up the Classic Driver philosophy of 'new and old', you'd be hard-put to find a more suitable duo. The coincidence of colour was a happy one, not essential for the comparison but nevertheless a nice touch. They even had interiors of a similar shade.

The responsibility of shepherding two cars with a rather neat combined value of £1,000,000 is a heavy one, however. I can only say: "We counted them out, and we counted them back again."

If your tastes are more track-orientated, we've just the car for you in this week's ClassicInside: the superb Porsche 911 GT 3.

Tony Dron describes the car as "magnificent", and it does beg the question, "Does anyone out there have a yellow 356 Carrera we can borrow?"

Lovely straight and rust-free example with cold air conditioning. Drives very well indeed with no smells or smoke, great oil pressure, lots of power. Good steering, good brakes and a real delight to drive.

Recent good quality repaint, leather and carpets. All gauges work. $2100+ just spent on rebuilding power window motors.

This is a fantastic, very low-production coachbuilt Bentley Drop Head that is very much in vogue. Rare when built, few ever available for sale. Will surely appreciate. Inspections encouraged. All sales AS-IS. Sales tax and license fees due if delivered in California.
