EDITORIAL
Given this week's blustery British weather, it had been my intention to offer a rough guide to the intensity of this year's Formula 1 season based on the principles of the Beaufort Scale of wind speed.
A race-long, three-way tussle between Alonso, Raikkonen and Hamilton would warrant 'Force 6', where 'Whistling in phone wires' becomes apparent, making it 'Difficult to use umbrellas'. Contrast that with a flag-to-flag rout for any one of the leading protagonists and 'Smoke would rise vertically', untroubled by the turbulence of ground level passing manoeuvres. Clearly 'Force 1'.
However, on reflection, modern Grand Prix racing either — to use another Beaufortian metaphor — breaks twigs off your tree, or it doesn't. I think it's going to be another great series of races and am genuinely looking forward to the early hours of Sunday morning.
Make sure your chimney pots are secured, though — it could be stormy times ahead…
