EDITORIAL

The Rolls-Royce was the talk of Olympia. Not the Veteran that sold for £3.5m, astounding though that was, no, it was the Corniche Coupé finished in what looked suspiciously like Cumberland Grey, with a complementing chocolate brown interior.

"Seen anything you like?", "Well now you mention it, I rather fancy that Corniche upstairs", was a running theme of the evening among the Classic Driving cognoscenti at this week's Bonhams sale.

Perhaps it was the colour, the chrome bumpers, or the lack of Everflex roof, but there's no denying it did look rather good — the killer punch being Parisian '75' number plates. You'd have to change them over for the UK, but the image of the grey car gliding into the Place Vendôme for a discreet dinner at The Ritz, or some serious shopping, is a heady one.

Not unlike driving a 250 GTO in the company of 20 others on the Moët & Chandon Tour in California. At least that actually happened, and you can read all about it in this week's ClassicInside.
