EDITORIAL
Looking at the specification of the new DBS because that whats been revealed in the last few hours, the shape and the broad principles of the car being well known for over a year I think you can see where Astons are coming from (or going to?).
The new car with its 2+0 seating, manual six-speed ‘box, switchable suspension, CCM brakes and nearly a 200kg saving in weight over the Vanquish yet eschewing the older cars showroom ‘200+mph maximum will probably be V8 Vantage meets DB9 Sports Manual, a car that will cover all the cross-border trips much beloved by motoring journalists, while also being well up for some serious track work and the occasional commute.
By reducing the weight, and keeping the top speed below the sound barrier, the requirement for a 600+bhp motor and all the development expense, packaging, plumbing and green issues therein is negated.
Ferrari has the ferociously fast 620bhp/205+mph 599 GTB but even they are addressing the prospects for these big front-engined V12s, admitting the future may lie in smaller-capacity turbo-V8s.
A new Aston, $2.3m for a historic Ferrari at auction it sounds like another good Monterey week.
More details of course to come next Friday in ClassicInside.

We have known of this car for several years, but only now have we been asked to sell it for its owner for the past 20.
This must be one of the most original and unmolested E-Types available today, never having been restored means that the panel fit and gaps are exceptional. One of the most comprehensive history files we have ever seen accompanies the car in which can be found the original Bill of Sale, invoices and unused owners handbook, service document, warranty and paint chip cards.
Finished in Opalescent Dark Green with Suede Green upholstery and fitted with chrome wire wheels and supplied with the personal number supplied by its first owner of 1 HDV.
Very rarely do we get the opportunity to offer such uniquely original cars as this.
