EDITORIAL
Welcome to the new-look ClassicInside.
Synonymous for years with the hand-crafted production of GT cars for the Sporting Gentleman, Newport Pagnell has completed its last Aston Martin motor car. A black Vanquish S Ultimate Edition, the car will be retained by the factory as a fitting representation of over 50 years of bespoke motor car manufacture, the likes of which we are unlikely to see again.
Two new models hitting the streets this week yet aimed firmly at the track are the latest Porsche 911 GT2 and Ferrari F430 Scuderia. Both sporting 500+hp motors and hi-tech features derived from racing, the choice is yours and the Classic Driver office is split down the middle. Bring ‘em on for testing I say!
The big news on the auction front is RM’s coup of the consignment of a large part of Bernie Ecclestone’s road car collection to a new sale on the calendar to be held in London this October. With an entry that includes several pre-War Mercedes it would have to go some, but may well match or exceed the success of the May sale at Maranello.
Lastly, do take time out to order your tickets for the Goodwood Revival. It was Press Day this week and this year’s programme was announced under sunny skies (how do they do it?). It’s going to be another good one, so get those Grandstand seats booked right away.
