Editorial

If you go to a motor show on press day it’s part of the deal (that also includes being generally plied with top-class hospitality by attractive hostesses who are unlikely to have just downed welding gear and raced over from the production line…) to pick up a ‘wheelie’ shopping trolley in which to deposit reams of press releases and ‘goodies’.

Taking a cue from the environmentalist tone that characterised Geneva this year – not to mention avoiding a severe stylistic gaffe - I forsook the trolley and brought back a few CDs of images and one slim brochure entitled Colori – Anni ’50 – ‘60. It’s the latest development in Ferrari’s "Carrozzeria Scaglietti" Personalisation Programme, and includes some beautiful photos of older models resplendent in the colours of the day, that are now being made available as options on the 612 Scaglietti.

It is a masterpiece of graphic design and, if you get a chance, do have a look at one and give any hue therein serious consideration when speccing-up your next Ferrari.

So he went to Geneva and all he can find time to talk about is paint? Right?

Well, not exactly, you can read all about what happened elsewhere at the Salon below, including an atmospheric photo-gallery from Nanette Schärf and your Editor’s thoughts on what’s hot and what’s not.

A well sorted, stunning looking example. Short chassis with all the right bits - 40 Gallon Le Mans fuel tank, louvered bonnet, overdrive, Feeny & Johnson brake servo, correct sloper carbs etc.

Very sound driving car that has a lovely exhaust note. The car competed in the Challenge America Race from Laguna Niquel to Atlanta coming 4th in the pre-war class and it won the award for the oldest car to finish. It also won the best of show award at the Briggs Cunningham Museum. Since then it has had a complete engine rebuild by Roger Cook.

Last major work was at Elmdown Engineering about 2,000 miles ago when it had a major service, brake overhaul and new clutch.
