Editorial

Victor Muller’s a man on a mission. The CEO of Spyker Cars unveiled the company’s Formula 1 challenger at Silverstone earlier this week, and he’s at pains to emphasise the link between modern racing and the company’s earlier (some 100 years ago) history with its innovative early cars.

Chatting to him after the launch, he explained the reason for going into the world’s premier racing series, and how we should be ‘watching this space’ for exciting road car spin-offs from both the single-seater programme and the company’s continuing involvement in GT2 sports car racing. All interesting stuff that you can read more about this week in ClassicInside.

There’s also a preview of this year’s Tour Auto that includes a provisional list of entries and a quick glance down the page reveals the usual selection of utterly desirable machinery that includes a 1966 Porsche 906, a 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ, a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB and a 1965 Ford GT40.

We’ve also included a link to a fine promotional film made by Peter Auto (the Tour’s organisers) that has some coverage from previous events sure to whet every enthusiast’s whistle.

There were two series of Ferrari Superfast cars, the first comprising twenty five cars, the second eleven and it is from the first series that Christie's are proud to present the car on offer.

Being the 5th Superfast built, it was shown at the Brussels Motor Show at the beginning of 1965 before delivery via legendary US Ferrari Importer Luigi Chinetti to its first owner Mr Gregg of Jacksonville, Florida, the owner of Brumos Porsche. Subsequent owners include Mr. Reynolds "Chip" duPont Jr and Hans Duerst.

Fast, luxurious, well-appointed and ultra scarce, Ferrari's Superfasts were the very pinnacle of a true wealthy Gentleman's Grand Touring car in the sixties. They would see well over 160 mph, given a long enough straight, and cruise easily at three figure speeds on any freeway, besides being an object of admiration wherever they appeared.

The Superfast is a much sought-after vehicle, one of Ferrari's greatest V12 cars of all time and should be closely examined.
