Editorial

And the market rolls on – another blockbusting week at the salerooms, this time in Arizona where some mighty figures were posted for collectors’ motor cars. You can read the latest news below, suffice it to say the European car prices are interesting – quality and provenance as ever will out – while the home grown muscle car phenomenon shows no sign of abating.

These cars are great fun, and the major US manufacturers are enjoying their renaissance with the re-introduction of retro-looking machines like the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger, but $517,000 for a Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda, however rare and esoteric the specification and paint scheme (Curious Yellow, if you’re, er…curious) is a lot of loot.

Likewise £130,500 for the Bentley Continental GTC I drove the other day. By necessity of the elements, the test was mainly from behind seamlessly swiping windscreen wipers, with industrial strength traffic allowing more time to study the interior of the car than a corner’s apex, but nevertheless I came away with an awesome impression of the car’s quality, something that the powers-that-be at Bentley have invested an awful lot of a Plymouth HEMI ‘Cuda’s worth on.

The Ford GT was pretty good too – you can read all about them in this week’s ClassicInside.

Although much of their business nowadays involves financing and insuring multi million Euro cars for multi millionaire European collectors, Kidston SA still seem to find time to unearth interesting cars and bring them to the market. One recent 'discovery' is this beautiful short nose 1965 Ferrari 275GTB/6C, the '6C' suffix marking it out as an original six carburettor version.

Unusually finished in Bianco Polo (white) rather than Retail Red, it was supplied new to well known Italian sporting motorist Count Zanon. Also new on Kidston SA's books is a right-hand drive 1973 Ferrari 365GTB/4 'A' Daytona in beautiful Blu Metalizzato with polished Borrani wire wheels. Other rarities include a Porsche 959 ex-Herbert von Karajan, and the ex-Patrick Tambay, 1983 San Marino Grand Prix-winning Ferrari Formula 1 126C2B.
