Editorial

Having duly handed over the keys of the RS4 on Friday last week, it was off to Monza for the 2006 Ferrari World Finals and a week that also included sampling on the streets of London the ex-Ecurie Francorchamps 1956 Jaguar D-type (4th place at Le Mans that year), the yellow car you can see below. The Audi story will have to wait for next time, but you can read about both the Monza experience and the D-type drive in this week’s ClassicInside.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the park last weekend as Michael Schumacher bid farewell to his legions of supporters amidst the familiar display by the Scuderia that included fast laps as well as the usual tyre burn-outs and salutes to the adoring Tifosi. Good luck to him say I, he thoroughly deserves a break from what must have been an inhuman (although very well rewarded, it has to be said) level of work over the last fifteen years.

The press conference at Monza on Sunday, with Jean Todt flanked by Michael and Felipe Massa, as well as Ross Brawn and Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and Vice-President Piero Ferrari was history in the making, with each player’s entrance real-life theatre at its most dramatic.

A wonderful experience and further proof (if needed) of the visceral attraction of the marque.
