Editorial

There’s not long to wait now, the hopes and expectations of nations will be resting on the finely honed shoulders of an international cast of hundreds of young athletes. I’m not referring to football, although I understand there is a low-key event being held in Germany right now, I’m talking about the annual battle of men and machines over 24 hours in France at Le Mans.

For many of you, next week’s Classic Inside will remain unopened as Friday will see a mass exodus to the famous circuit of La Sarthe. We’ll be there too, and I’m anticipating a battle royal in the class that really matters, the modified GT cars from Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche, while 2006 could well see an overall victory for a diesel car (from Audi) for the very first time.

Can the Ingolstadt team really do it? And will Aston Martin Racing beat the Corvettes on European soil after last year’s travails?

Just a few days to go now and at least it’s one result unlikely to be settled by a penalty shoot-out.
