Editorial

It’s an excited SW that’s penning the Editorial this week. Last weekend I joined the inaugural Ferrari Enzo meeting that drove from the company’s Fiorano test track to the fabulous Mugello circuit near Florence, by way of a Piazza in the great Renaissance city where nearly 50 cars were lined up under the careful watch of the local police.

Pretty good I hear you say. Add to that a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti in order to follow the Enzos in suitable style, and a wonderfully organised trip amongst like-minded collectors to and from the event. Oh, and a ride round the circuit in an Enzo. As we title it below, it really is as good as it gets.

You hear about the way the Italians love powerful cars, and Ferraris in particular, and this manifested itself in the experience of a lifetime: a police-escorted convoy of Enzos - and us in the 612 - through heavy traffic in a drizzling, early Saturday evening. I won’t attempt the Biblical metaphors but the sea of traffic really did part for us and if I can connect the Red Sea to that; all well and good. A fantastic trip.

It would only be fair to redress the balance a little with testing some V12 British motoring, and that’s what I shall be doing this weekend. You’ll hear about it a little later next month, a chap’s got to have a bit of time to rest and recuperate.

Travelling by private jet with the ‘lucky seven’, your Editor was invited to follow the tour in a 612 Scaglietti...
