Editorial

We seem to have got terribly racy this week - and no, I’m not talking ‘top shelf’. There’s a nice feature by John Mayston-Taylor on the recent Rolex Monterey Historics, with excellent photography by Tim Scott, and we also review the very first Tour Britannia, the British version of the popular European rally/races like the Tour Auto. I had a quick look at the final day’s action at Silverstone yesterday and it was impressive. And it’s always great to see racing cars made road-legal and driven on the public highway. Blessed with the UK’s ‘Indian Summer’ weather, it was clearly a success and will be repeated in 2006.

And all this talk of historic racing prompts me to remind you that next week will be the Goodwood Revival. Let me say once again that a) It’s the best historic race meeting in the world, and b) It’s for advanced ticket holders only, so get online and book those tickets right away!

Back to matters strictly ‘street’, next Tuesday will see the start of the Frankfurt Motor Show, the ‘IAA’. Several new models are to be seen for the first time and we’ve a glimpse of some of them in today’s Classic Inside. Suffice it to say that Classic Driver will be there in force to bring you all the very latest news as it happens.

Finally do have time to check out the fantastic Paul Smith Limited Edition Triumph Bonneville. I’d add it to my imaginary garage any time and, despite its recent manufacture, what a great way of visiting events like the Revival? I’d be happy to swing my leg over it any time - which is where we came in I think.

Hope to see some of you next week at Goodwood.

Lotus 23B

This is a very important car for us and we consulted many experts in the field for information and history on this car before we purchased it. It is the Real Thing and it is a Real Find! The car is extremely well known on the Gentleman Driver circuit, and competed in all races in 2004 including Spa, Dijon, Nürburgring, Oulton Park Gold Cup etc.

Chassis 23-S-24 was originally supplied to Rodney Bloor at Sports Motors in Manchester, and many race results are recorded in the specialist books. The car has FIA Papers to cover both the 23 (1100 MAE Engine) and also the 23B (1600 Lotus Twincam).

The car has been completely rstored and a huge amount of money has been spent. The car has been prepared in recent years by Kelvin Jones Motorsport Ltd. The engine is the all steel Neil Roper built Lotus Twincam 1600c which has only completed two races. In addition to this the car is completely fresh and ready to race with a new battery, new clutch etc. Just turn up and race.
