Editorial

You can read the final part of the odyssey that is our multiple test of Ferrari’s latest supercars below. It was a tremendous experience to have sampled all three cars in such a short space of time over a considerable distance and, well fed and watered, they all performed superbly. I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I savoured the driving.

Mind you, Attenzione! If you are driving in Italy. The Italian Polizia Stradale has added another Gallardo to its fleet and this one will be patrolling the centre and north of the country, prime supercar territory. We’ve an interview (courtesy of the excellent Auto Italia magazine) below, and I particularly like the interior shot of the car, with all the gadgets and gizmos on display. Is that a VCR remote control on the dash, with a curly cable running into the glove-box? You’d have thought they could have run to an infra-red at least, and I also like the officer’s ‘modest shrug’, you can just imagine it can’t you? All great stuff and a good read.

There’s also news of one of cinema’s iconic cars for sale, the Ferrari 275 GTS/4 NART Spyder that starred with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair. It’s to be auctioned at Monterey next month, and I didn’t realise the car had competed (with an all-girl driving line-up) at the 1967 Sebring 12 Hours. A situation that in today’s ‘product-placement’ film industry would be inconceivable.

And also, how would the producer’s have got along with one of today’s Le Mans cars? Riding crops at dawn no doubt, at the thought of the featured car having its oil pre-warmed prior to every take.
