Editorial

A 40th birthday is a special occasion. Can it really be as many as four decades ago that the Lamborghini Miura was first shown to an unsuspecting public one autumn's day in Turin? If ever a car can be considered 'timeless', 'classic' or 'age-defying' then the Miura truly is it. And it looks even more fantastic and desirable now than it did at the time, while also having the extraordinary ability to look good in any colour - and I mean any, including Justin de Villeneuve (the alias for Nigel John Davies, 1960s modelling icon Twiggy's sometime manager) having his electro-statically flock-coated lime green.

How did the Sant'Agata Bolognese company do it, when so many others failed? It's like the magical 'something' a successful pop record has, that so many other song-writing monkeys tapping away at the proverbial typewriter for eternity cannot achieve. Ferrari's BB series of the mid-'70s came close, and yet...

Let's save our champagne for later this year, but start remembering now the stroke of artistic genius that produced the Miura.
