Editorial

Another predominantly American issue this week as the Detroit Auto Show enters its final few days. Just to jazz things up a little we've included in our 'Classic Life' section an article on the baddest golf buggies in town from Luxury Carts. Wouldn't it be fun if, like a Russian doll, you could actually carry them in the back of their namesakes?

A drive in Ford's latest Mustang was eagerly anticipated and it did not disappoint. Picking the car up from a parking lot that included a Boss Hoss (the Corvette-engine Harley-like motorbike), and a Peterbilt tractor unit one might have momentarily have been transported Stateside. The '05 Mustang was great to drive, and presents a friendly and fun alternative to many European coupés. For the money, it's pretty unbeatable and for those considering an extra 'daily driver' with a classic twist I can only say one thing - try it out.

To matters more traditional, Bentley have launched the 4-door version of its highly successful Continental GT, picking a name out of the parts bin; 'Flying Spur'. My opinion would be; buy the Coupé or have a pre-owned Arnage for the same money, it'll be interesting to see how they do with this one. As a comparison, Mercedes' new CLS looks an impressive car if you want four doors and a boot, and even big-V8-equipped is available at a considerable discount to the British car.

Then again there are those who say the VW Phaeton (W12 + 4WD as well, please note) will do all of these things for a real fraction of the price. To date I think I have seen one in the UK, let's hope things go better for the 'Spur.

Until next week,
