Editorial

There can only really be one opening topic for the editorial - the launch of Aston Martin's stunning DBR9 racing sports car. Being one of the fortunate present at yesterday's event, I can only repeat the gist of our article in that it looked fabulous and that the company is clearly going to great lengths to make it a viable 'privateer' car in the DB3S mould of the 1950s. The heritage of the road-going car is quite clear in its racing brother, indeed much of the DB9s innovative bonded-aluminium body architecture, and lightweight rigid chassis is shared with the DBR9. With everything going to plan on the programme a trip to next year's Le Mans 24 Hours is going to be a 'must'.

Elsewhere in Classic Inside you will see a great article on the restoration of a Maserati 3500GT commissioned before, and completed after, the crazy 1980s classic car boom. There's also an idea of Brobdingnadian (or should that be Lilliputian?) life driving the micro-supercar from smart around London.

And if Santa's inbox receives a copy of 'Classic Inside', a DBR9 will do me just fine this year.

Ferrari 365GT4 BB

First registered by Maranello Concessionaires in ‘75. Col. Ronnie Hoare used it for his personal transport for 6 months. It has been in our care since the late 80’s during which we have carried out a full engine rebuild, suspension/chassis and a ground up bodywork restoration which included new sills, A posts, rear panels, door bottoms and door skins. Full photographic evidence of this is included in the comprehensive history file. The last owner purchased it from us in July 1995. In 1999 we carried out a major transaxle rebuild which included new casing, sycromesh and bearings. The larger 9” wheels have recently been fitted and the original XWX tyres have covered 3000 miles since then. It comes with its original tool kit, hand book and workshop manual. This has ultimately got to be one of the finest 365’s in existence.
