Welcome back. The holiday’s over now and we can now look forward
to the run up to Christmas. Ouch, sorry about that, but I think
we have some interesting stories in Classic Inside today (and of
course in weeks to come) that’ll keep your mind fully occupied.
Monterey and Pebble Beach have come and gone, one of our correspondents
reporting that he had ‘Finally looked at enough cars!’
Well there certainly was an awful lot to look at and if six auctions
selling over $48,000,000, a race that included no less than 13 Ferrari
GTOs in one class, the Ferrari Club of America national meeting,
and much, much more wasn’t enough for most car fans I don’t
know what is. You can see an overview of the auction scene below,
together with a flavour of some of the events.
Ferrari’s F430 has finally broken cover this week, after months
of spy shots and artists’ impressions. Evolutionary rather
than revolutionary is an oft-used phrase but I guess it best sums
up the car which, like the majority of the company’s current
range, is going further down the Formula One-derived route. It’s
obviously what the buyers want, and the Group has Maserati (and
the 612 Scaglietti) for the more comfort-oriented market. If you
had a 360/F430 plus a new Quattroporte it would be nice combination.
A nice double Christmas present in fact - which is where we came
in. Classic Inside as usual next week, it’ll be Goodwood Revival
weekend and don’t forget there is just enough time to book
tickets for one of the motoring events of the year.

Aston
Martin Virage Lynx Turbo
Built
by Lynx in 2002, this highly modified Virage is now powered by a
7 litre turbo charged version of the original 5.3 litre unit. Power
output is 725 bhp at 4000 rpm with peak torque a staggering 1,150
1b/ft at 3,100 rpm. The automatic transmission, brakes, suspension
and steering have all be modified to handle the huge increase in
performance. At the owner's request no modifications to the bodywork
or styling have been made. The only clues to the dramatic increase
in performance being the larger diameter wheels and additional cooling
ducts in the front spoiler. Full technical specification is available
on request and the car is available now at a fraction of its built
cost.
