Editorial
Britain's
latest specialist car manufacturer, Invicta, has something to celebrate
this Christmas; a dozen firm orders and many requests to road test
the Wiltshire built vehicle next year. The reason, in your editor's
opinion, is by simply going back to the principles of elegant shape,
adequate power and a tasteful attitude to designing a vehicle for
a discerning market. Very much the principles adopted by its ancestor
the S-Type of the early '30s, which Tony Dron profiles this week.
The original is a truly elegant car which, when seen (sadly rarely
nowadays), draws the exclamation "That's nice. What is it?"
The same can be said of the new car and we wish them all the very
best, a few major players in the world car market could learn from
them.
With
the final big auction of the year due in a week's time, please allow
us some technical trumpet blowing. Classic Driver are pleased to
debut their new auction estimate pricing system for the Bonhams
Gstaad Ferrari sale. For the first time you can see the full range
of estimates in a format that is sortable and also converts to all
the world's major currencies. We believe this is a world first and
are delighted to demonstrate it on such a stratospheric selection
of cars. Professional impartiality forbids me from selecting a favourite
lot; please find time to look at the full listing which includes
the earliest-serial surviving competition Ferrari.
And
an ex-Jo Siffert Lusso, original Competition 250 SWB, three F1 cars,
Daytonas, a Boxer, 275 GTBs

Auction
Review: Christie's at the Jack Barclay Showroom, Nine Elms, London
3rd December 2002
Without
doubt, the Christie's 3rd December sale provided one of the most
beautiful auction catalogues ever, thanks to the inclusion of the
James Allington collection. Probably the greatest artist of his
generation in the field of cutaway car illustrations, the catalogue
included many of Allington's works and even a colour cutaway of
a Ferrari on tracing paper...

Auction
Review: H&H at the Buxton Pavilion, Derbyshire 3rd - 4th December
2002
H&H
had mixed fortunes at their 4th December sale. On the good side,
over 80% of the cars sold grossing almost £820,000
on the hammer prices alone (H&H charges 5% buyers commission,
with a minimum of £150) so the auction houses
reputation for successful sales was upheld. However, most of the
top value cars failed to find new homes...
