The
ex-Peter Sauber, HJ Stuck, Manfred Schurti, Harald Grohs, Leopold
von Bayern and Sigi Muller 1979 BMW M1 Procar
The
car on offer was Procar production number 29 and delivered to
Peter Sauber in Switzerland in 1980. Sauber at that time had secured
sponsorship from the Swiss firm of POOH Jeans to run a two-car
Procar team; one for F1 driver Marc Surer the other for Manfred
Schurti. As Surers commitments proved too heavy for him
to compete regularly the Swiss driver Walter Nussbaumer took over.
In six Procar races Nussbaumer's best result was 8th place, with
7th overall at the final round of the DRM in Hockenheim. For two
other races 076 was driven by Schurti who recorded a 2nd place
and a retirement.
For
1981 Sauber decided to contest the DRT (Deutsche Rennsport Trophy)
with Nussbaumer, however 076 was sold during that year to the
GS team for Helmut Henzler, who finished 2nd in the series, the
car wearing the BASF Cassette livery. In 1982 Sigi Muller Jnr.
drove 076 in the DRT, the car painted in blue, the livery of Arcus
Air.
At
the end of 1982 the whole team was bought by Walter Brun, Group
4 became Group B and races entered included the Nürburgring
1000kms (Grohs and von Bayern) and Le Mans (von Bayern, Jens Winter
and Angelo Pallavicini), retiring after 16 hours with gearbox
failure.
This
is a car with a great history, that is exceptionally rewarding
to drive and has proved itself highly competitive at every stage
of its history. It is fit and ready to add even more success to
its record.
