The keys to Bond’s DB5 sold at auction

Is there no stopping the attraction of 007 and anything Bond-related? Apparently not, as Christie’s sold a small collection of the world’s most famous secret agent’s ephemera at a London sale this week.

Compared to the £2,912,000 Aston Martin that sold at RM’s 2010 London sale, £1250 for the set of two gear knobs, a well-used ejector-seat button and a car key (attached, bizarrely, to a ‘Bugatti’ key ring…) that was used in the car starring in Goldfinger might seem a bargain.

The pieces were sold as one lot at Christie’s 23 November ‘Pop Culture: Film & Entertainment Memorabilia’ sale. The modest price for Bond memorabilia should be placed in the context of £16,875 paid for a baby Ewok puppet from the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, estimated at £4,000 - 5,000.

The Force, presumably, is now with Luke Skywalker rather than 007.
