Jan B. Luehn Track Day at Spa
Advertorial

Earlier this month, historic racing car specialist Jan B. Luehn took a carefully selected group of customers, together with their valuable racing machines, to a track day at Spa-Francorchamps.

About 40 drivers travelled to Spa from eight nations, along with 70 rare historic cars. Unusually, there were no noise restrictions for the track cars and, indeed, the participants considered themselves lucky to be there at all, since huge interest in the event meant places were over-subscribed. The main criterion for acceptance was the provenance of the vehicles…

…hence the cars taking part were quite exceptional. Comprising race and sports cars of the last 60 years, there were a few noteworthy exceptions to this period – such as the two Maserati 250S F1 cars, and a post-War Lotus Climax V8 racer. Despite rain in the early part of the day, Maserati, Ferrari and de Tomaso sports cars were driven spiritedly round the circuit, along with a Porsche 911 3.0 RSR and 911 SC/RS, their engines howling between 9.00 and 12.00 o’clock without needing to worry that they were breaking noise limits.

After a short lunch break, it was the turn of such exotics as the 1976 Ralt RT1 F3 car, and the Radical prototype. At the end of the day, the participants celebrated with a glass of champagne followed by dinner.

Said organiser Jan B. Luehn: “Our first track day at Spa was a great success. We were highly selective when it came to accepting cars for the event, resulting in a varied but historically significant field. The feedback from participants was very positive, despite the initial rain, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves hugely."

It’s likely that the Jan B. Luehn Track Day will become a regular fixture on the calendar, although a date and venue for the next event have not yet been confirmed.
