Following on from its successful sale in 2006, over 70 entries have been assembled by the organisers for a repeat performance at this year’s forthcoming Geneva Classics. Among a varied selection of classic cars and motorcycles is a 1979 BMW M1 Procar Group 4, estimated at CHF 820,000-1,000,000.

Having been driven by such racing luminaries as Hans-Joachim Stuck, Manfred Schurti, Harald Grohs, Leopold von Bayern and Sigi Muller, the car on offer, chassis number 076, was Procar production number 29 – one of the series of ‘identical’ cars raced on Grand Prix weekends as a highly entertaining precursor to the main event.



With race meetings such as the Le Mans Classic now open to vehicles of the vintage (this actual car having featured in the 1982 24 Hours), it would make a pretty handy entry for a historic racer looking for something more modern.




Move the clock back 40-odd years and you find a British sportscar with period competition history, the 1939 Aston Martin 15/98 2 Litre, a car that was driven in the 1939 M.C.C. London to Lands End Trial by Shirley and Price, gaining a bronze medal. Ownership of one of these sportscars, now proving so popular on the Mille Miglia and similar top-drawer events, will cost a buyer CHF 240,000-300,000 (that’s around £101,000-127,000). Also on the Aston front, the sale includes three other cars: a 1955 DB 2/4 Coupe (CHF 120,000-150,000; No Reserve), a 1975 V8 Saloon (CHF 50,000-70,000; No Reserve), and a 1979 Aston Martin V8 Volante (CHF 110,000-130,000). By a remarkable coincidence, all these cars (and the pre-War) are finished in red.



Needless to say, as befits one of the Italian company’s top markets, there are several (10) Ferraris in the catalogue. There was a 250 GT SWB last year, and though 2007’s selection does not quite match that, cars of note include a yellow 1977 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina’ for CHF 65,000-75,000 and a gorgeous, metallic blue 1969 365 GTC at CHF 370,000-420,000.



Often described as ‘the mini-GTO’, the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1 is a jewel of a sports-racer that saw track action at all the big long-distance events of the ’60s. The 1963 model in the sale (CHF 520,000-600,000) is one such car and, like the BMW M1, is perfect for 21st Century historic racing. But, for those looking for the ultimate in ‘dial-in-the power’ racing, there’s an ex-Le Mans 1981 Kremer Porsche 935 K3, estimated at CHF 950,000-1,250,000, one of the famous run of 935s that won every major race of the time (including Daytona, Le Mans and the ’Ring).



Coming from the age of elegance in the 1930s are several examples of Bugatti (including a 1935 Type 57 Ventoux Coupé for CHF 600,000-750,000), BMW (the ahead-of-its-time 1938 328 for CHF 710,000-830,000, just for starters) and a striking 1925 Bentley 4.5 Litre Le Mans-style Tourer at CHF 750,000-900,000.



In addition to the motor car entries, there are several rare motorcycles and nearly 50 lots of automobilia, including Lot 46, a Ferrari 512 TR engine ‘with all ancillary components in "as new" condition’ for CHF 20,000-25,000.
