Barons Sale 29th June 2004 Sandown Park, Esher
Once again Barons will be offering a broad selection of classic cars at their Sandown Park Racecourse sale next week. Several Bentleys are on offer and this 1997 Bentley Brooklands R looks an attractive buy at its £21,000 - 24,000 estimate.

As one of the final models built before the introduction of the Arnage-generation in 1998 this Brooklands R is equipped with the light-pressure turbo motor (producing around 300bhp, and 442lb/ft torque @2000rpm) as well as various Mulliner options, such as five-spoke alloys, a mesh grille, ‘995’ steering wheel, parking sensors, ebonised dashboard, chrome instrument bezels, photochromatic rear-view mirror and a stacking CD player. Its list price in 1997 would have been in the region of £107,000 and this car represents superb value for those wanting to join the exclusive ‘Bentley Turbo’ club.

Three other examples of Crewe’s finest are in the sale, a 1986 Bentley Eight for £8,500 - 10,000, a 1984 Bentley Mulsanne R, £6,000 - 8,000, and a very nice 1976 Bentley T1 for £3,000 - 5,000.

Jaguar is the most numerous marque with twelve cars included in the auction. Prices range from £1,250 - 2,500 for a 1975 XJ6 LWB 4.2 to £21,500 - 24,000 for the 1959 XK150 FHC 3.4, the latter appearing a very sound car and presenting well in the photographs available.

No Barons sale would be complete without a selection of W107 model Mercedes-Benz SL sports cars. Four examples are present, and to complete the M-B SL history one of each of this model’s successor and predecessor are also in the sale. Both the 1969 ‘Pagoda’ 280SL and 1994 500SL are estimated at £14,000 - 16,000.

Lastly, this 1957 Porsche 356 A 1600cc, at £11,000 - 14,000, has been owned by the vendor for ten years and benefiting from a full restoration some years ago, as well as a full engine rebuild by specialist Barry Curtis in 1999. When delivered to Barons, the car had completed a round trip from London, to Bodmin, to the New Forest, without incident. The vendor states that the car has also been featured in the magazine Porsche World and is offered complete with a number of previous MoT certificates, some bills and other paperwork.
