27/02/2003 Auction Review: H&H at Buxton 19th February 2003
H&H’started their 2003 season with an upbeat sale at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton. The packed saleroom saw fifty one cars change hands for a sale total of £620,000 and although the sales rate dropped below its normal 80% to 62% H&H consider the sale produced 'some truly market changing and explosive results'.

The results were led by the 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster which had been estimated at a market relevant £100,000-120,000 but in the end changed hands for a European and UK Record of £174,100. (Results information, supplied by Richard Hudson-Evans and includes all normal road cars, but excludes factory development cars and any 1989 results). It had been converted to disc brakes and was purchased by a prominent European dealer on behalf of an unnamed client.
Other interesting results included a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa at £37700 - this was the ex Elton John car. A fully restored 1966 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 sold very well at £31200. A 1963 Lagonda Rapide at £23750 may suggest that this marque is on the way up again [pass your hats over for my consumption, but the estimate was £28-30k - Ed]. A lovely 1936 Austin York at £14600 was a sensational result. A 1950 Riley RMC 2.5 litre Roadster that had been stood for a number of years and was in need of some attention fetched a whopping £14400 and a 1964 Lotus Elan S2 Drophead fetched a superb £13700.
H&H’s next sale is on 8/9 April in Buxton and their inaugural London Sale will be held at Olympia, May 7.
