‘Carrera GTS’: 408HP Porsche 911 to Debut in Paris

Porsche will introduce what could well be the final version of its 997-model 911 at the forthcoming Paris show.

The new car not only packs an uprated 3.8-litre engine which now produces 408HP (or 402bhp, a 23HP increase over the regular Carrera S), it also features a wider rear track clothed in 4S bodywork. Maximum torque remains unchanged at 420Nm but is now available at 4200rpm, which is 200rpm lower than in ‘S’.

Other extra equipment as standard includes black-painted, 9in centre-lock RS Spyder wheels, a SportDesign front apron with spoiler edge painted in black, and special side skirts. The rear wheels are fitted with 305/35 ZR19 tyres.

The interior is black with much Alcantara and, guess what... the dual tailpipes are black, too.

Top speed rises by a touch (2mph) to 192mph while acceleration, in an optionally equipped PDK model, is now just 4.2 seconds for the 0-62mph sprint. The time is achieved in ‘full attack’ mode with the Sport Chrono Package Plus set to Sport Plus.

The fuel consumption of a Carrera GTS with PDK in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) is 10.2 litres/100km (27.69mpg) – the same as a Carrera S. CO2 emissions are 240g/km.

The Carrera GTS is available as a coupé and cabriolet, and is priced in the UK from £76,758 for the former and £83,493 for the convertible.
