Auto China 2010, the Beijing motor show, will see Maybach adding further sparkle to its extravagant saloons. First and foremost, in case the Maybach’s ‘exceptional status’ is not sufficiently recognised, it will be further emphasised by an even larger, even more dominant chrome radiator grille.
Maybach aficionados will need to know that this grille is “meticulously produced in two different variants”. In the Maybach 57 and 62 models, it has – we’re told – 20 fine longitudinal bars, while the Maybach 57 S and 62 S revel in 12 solid double louvres and a ‘shadow strut’. And there’s more. Not only are the grilles higher, boasting significantly greater dimensions than before, but they have “been assigned a more upright position”.
But that’s not all. The 14-page, 5200-word press release gives mind-boggling detail of other cosmetic upgrades, from the ‘bonnet with a shaped edge’, through the ‘trim on the front bumper’, to the ‘high-quality, dark red tail lights’.
Meanwhile, among the new items available on request are seat piping which is “hand-braided or refined with CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements, an exquisite flacon perfume atomiser and a WLAN router for wireless internet access”. Now, that last one we like.
