Buyers of Aston Martin’s range-topping DBS and V12 Vantage models can opt for a ‘Carbon Black’ package that includes special, hand-finished paintwork in a unique metallic black plus several other bespoke features.

‘Hand-finishing’ in this sense means an additional 50 hours of manual work on top of the usual craftsmanship at the Gaydon factory. The new colour is another variation on the level of metallic particles and subtle tone of pigments to create a distinctive shade of black.

The Carbon Black V12 Vantage (above) incorporates a carbonfibre side strake backed by a black mesh grille, and runs on gloss-black, 10-spoke, diamond-turned alloy wheels. The grille is bright-finished and front parking sensors (normally an option) come as standard.

The DBS (below) is simply treated to the all-new colour scheme for body and wheels, while inside both cars it’s Obsidian Black leather with contrasting silver coarse stitching. Piano Black is standard for the centre console fascia.

Both cars include the superlative lightweight bucket seats finished in black Alcantara and leather.

As an extra incentive, customers who order a Carbon Black Edition V12 Vantage will have the opportunity to experience Aston Martin’s Performance Driving Course (UK and Europe only) free of charge.

The company will announce exact pricing in the New Year but suggests that the cost of these special features is likely to add five per cent to both cars’ recommended prices. Deliveries will commence from March 2010.
