1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Aluminium lightweight Roadster
SLC 900 was first registered on the 5th October 1961 and was fastidiously rebuilt to lightweight specification by marquee specialists between 1989 and 1995. The car still retains its original number plate and shows numerous scruitineering tags from meetings during the early 1980 s.
In 1985 the vehicle was purchased by Dr David Flanagan, who embarked upon a ground up restoration on the car in order to use it for sprints, rallies, race meetings and fast road use. Consequently, the engine was fitted with triple Webber carburettors, taking the power output to over 300 bhp. In addition, aluminium bonnet, doors and boot lid were fitted by renowned panel specialists R.S. Panels at a cost of 6300 pounds in 1990.
Photographic evidence illustrates SCL 900 being taken back to bare metal, completely mechanically overhauled (including engine) and re-sprayed to its current colour combination or British Racing Green and Beige Leather interior.
In recent years this E-type has been further transformed to fast-road specification with significant improvements. In 2004 Classic Jaguar Racing were commissioned to build an aluminium monocoque, which took 6 months to complete and transformed the car into an extremely light and powerful 3.8 Roadster. Later, in 2007 a significant mechanical overhaul was completed by highly respected DK Engineering, at a cost of over 10000 pounds
Since then, SCL 900 has had it hide interior re-trimmed and has a current MOT. More recently a new clutch slave seal has been fitted along with a new paddle clutch plate, and an overhaul of the front and rear brakes.
Complete with lightweight Dunlop Racing Wheels from Lynx, stainless steel Bell exhaust system, significant history file, past HSCC papers, V5 registration document, five speed Getrag gearbox and limited slip differential.
This early flat floor E-Type roadster is in excellent condition and represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase an extremely rapid version of one of the most attractive cars ever produced and is evocative of the original Lightweights which dominated sports car racing in period and continue to do so in Historic racing.
