| This 1964 Porsche SC Cabriolet was delivered in June of 1964. It was ordered new from the factory for delivery in the United Kingdom and the Certificate of Authenticity confirms the rare option of 'steering wheel on the right'. To find a factory built, right-hand drive SC Cabriolet is very rare - I would estimate production at between 40 and 80 including South African and Australian production. The SC is the ultimate 356 derivative and in cabriolet form must surely be the most desirable pushrod-engined 356 with the highest output motor, factory-fit disc brakes and the best developed suspension settings. The original owner was C. H. Sherwood, Esq. of Birmingham. He passed to the car on to D. Mills in 1974. In 1977, Craig Gutshall, a pilot in the R.A.F. purchased the car and soon after, he and his wife Barbara moved to Los Angeles, California. Craig and Barbara later moved to Chico, California to run Barbara’s family farm. The right-hand drive car spent many years plying the roads of the Northern Sierra Foothills. Craig sadly passed away but Barbara continued to drive the car regularly until this spring. In 2002 the car was restored in its original factory colour, Light Ivory (6404). At that time, Guido’s Auto Precision rebuilt the engine, transmission and suspension. Black leather front seats and German square weave carpet replicated the original equipment as installed at the Porsche Factory in 1964. As well as the Factory Certificate of Authenticity, the history file also contains sundry invoices from its early life in the UK, including maintenance bills from the official Porsche importer AFN Ltd. as well as the original owner's handbook. The car remains in stunning condition throughout and drives superbly, with strong performance, pin-sharp brakes and confident handling - all of the things that made this a real connoisseur's car in its' day.
