Le petit prince du cinéma français qui, un jour, a demandé à Mézières: « Dessine-moi un taxi... » « En dessinant un décor du Cinquième élément, pour boucher des espaces, j'avais mis des petits taxis... Quand Luc les a vus, il les a trouvés marrants, et il m'a demandé d'en redessiner d'autres... Quand la production du film a repris (après un arrêt durant lequel Besson a tourné Léon), Dan Weil (Chef Décorateur) m'a rappelé pour finaliser quelques dessins. J'ai reçu un nouveau scénario dans lequel Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) était devenu chauffeur de taxi ! Luc avait dû se dire que ce n'était pas une mauvaise idée ! » Jean Claude Mézières. « J'ai été invité sur le tournage dans les Studios de Pinewood à Londres, mais ce n'est qu'à l'avant-première du film que j'ai découvert l'importance de mes taxis dans l'histoire ! Les taxis volants étaient une bonne idée ! » Ce Taxi futuriste du XXIIIe siècle (clin d'oeil également à l'univers de Bilal) a été acheté à la production Europa Corp.
