French title• Desirable early version of the Traction• Careful restoration, retaining originality• Legendary model, robust and easy to drive1935 Citroën Traction 7C saloonPresented in 1934, the Traction became a universal success, vindicating André Citroën’s preferences: front-wheel drive, monocoque body, all-round independent suspension, and a low, sleek body style. The Traction on offer is a 1935 7C, from the very early days of the model, fitted with a 1,628 cc engine. Sympathetically restored, it is presented in grey with black wings. The chrome work has been refurbished and the bodywork is in superb condition. This car is one of the early body styles, with a closed boot, hence the Rigidex luggage rack. Another characteristic of the early version is the position of the chevrons, which is behind the radiator grille. The interior has been re-upholstered in the correct fabric and colours for the period: beige chamois rooflining, light brown fabric seats in herringbone, and beige carpet. The lining of the doors is wonderfully elegant, in keeping with the early models. The dashbord is also laid out correctly, with the instruments positioned centrally and a glove box either side. It is all in good working order. Mechanically, the car has benefitted from the same careful makeover. The engine works well, and the gearbox has been refurbished by Saint-Clair d Aubarède, son of the engineer Aubarède, who developed the principle of the floating engine. The brakes have been re-lined, the car has been re-wired and is fitted with stainless steel exhaust. The front axle has been replaced and the car is in good running order. Being an early model, finished to a high standard with an array of good original features, this car stands out from other Tractions, and presents a great opportunity to purchase an example of the early version, rarer than the classic 11 CV.
