This Lotus Elite is the very first car built to Super 100 specification. The proof that this is a genuine Super 100 is confirmed on the original Swedish import form from 1961, where it is stated that the power output is 100 bhp. It is also confirmed in the famous Lotus Elite book by Dennis Ortenburger that this was the first example of this type. These very rare cars were made for racing, and had the famous Coventry Climax engine tuned to 100 bhp. This was achieved by fitting double Weber carburettors, 5 bearing camshafts, a special exhaust manifold, ZF gearbox, ultra light Borrani wire wheels and a special long distance fuel tank with large Monza style fuel filler cap.
This car was imported new in Sweden in 1961, and has a lot of racing history from new. First owner was Odd Lundkvist, who raced the car for two years in the Swedish and Finnish championship. Second owner was Stefan Wahlström, who raced it for another two years.This is all documented with period photographs, and lots of results from that era. Then the car came in the hands of another Swedish gentleman, who sold the car on to Tommy Paulson. He owned the car from 1967 until now, and kept it in this unbelievable original condition.
He had the car partly restored in 1968, and since then this Lotus Elite remained as it is now. He only drove the car to the yearly MOT check, and kept it well hidden in its garage, where we found this little gem by coincidence.
Everything is documented from day one, and the condition of the car is superb and extremely original.
Finding such a well kept car with period racing history is probably a once in a lifetime experience, and this particular example must appeal to every serious car collector being one of the most correct survivors of the ultra rare Super 100.
