| For sale by auction with Historics at Brooklands, June 2nd 2010, Weybridge, UK.
The CLK DTM AMG has inherited the genes of the DTM-winning Mercedes and possesses many similarities to its big brother and celebrated victor of the German Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters racing series which has to use a normally aspirated 4.0 L V8, limited to less than 500hp. You need look no further than the exterior design of the new CLK DTM AMG to find the first traces of its racing pedigree, the transfer of high-end motorsport technology to the road given visual expression by the low slung front apron with large cooling air inlets, striking fender flarings, 19 and 20-inch AMG light-alloy wheels and the diffuser-look rear section with rear wing spoiler, all of which recall the head-turning muscularity of the successful CLK racing touring cars competing in the DTM. Under the bonnet lurks a specially revised version of the AMG supercharged eight-cylinder engine familiar from the SL55 AMG, featuring modifications to the crank-case, pistons, valve train, cooling system, intake duct, supercharger and exhaust system. The cooling system of the supercharged eight-cylinder power unit has also been optimised. The water-cooled intercooler with low-temperature circuit is fitted with additional radiators integrated into the front apron, which help to even out temperature peaks. An efficient engine oil cooler on the left of the system keeps the temperature of the lubricant at low levels even under heavy loads. Once inside the CLK DTM AMG, the driver is struck by a functional racing ambience with many hallmarks of the trademark exclusivity of AMG high-performance cars. Two leather sports bucket seats fitted with four-point safety belts offer the occupants safety and comfort, whilst the thick and suede-trimmed AMG racing steering wheel helps to transmit a particularly acute feel for the car. The door panels are made from Carbon Fibre, as are many other elements of the interior. This 2,500 mile, two-owner CLK DTM has been very well cared for since its registration in 2005, and the history file includes receipts for a full £4,500 service undertaken less than 1,000 miles ago. The vendor describes this car as in all round excellent condition, and it comes complete with all original features, plus the valuable K666 DTM registration number. This special K666 DTM is one of just 40 righthand drive examples of this wonderful marque. Added to which, only 100 Coupés and 80 Cabriolets were built with famous owners from the racing world including Formula One drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikkonen.
