A Press Release from Aston Martin dated 1st March 1999 with a one week embargo was issued in advance of the Geneva Motor Show. Its purpose was to announce a limited addition of the Vantage to commemorate 40 years since Aston Martin one at Le Mans. To be built to special order, the production ran to 40 cars only. Incorporating many of the Works Service Dynamic performance upgrade items, the ‘LE MANS’ was offered with both 550 and 600bhp engine options. Customers were offered the usual infinite colour and trim combinations with many choosing the famous Almond Metallic Green, David Brown’s choice of livery on the winning DBR1’s. In addition to the enhanced performance chassis package, this model featured further aerodynamic improvements to both front and rear spoilers with enlarged aerodynamic cooling inlets to the bonnet and radiator blanking plate. Revised wing vents were modelled to replicate those on the DBR1/2 with fuel filler flaps being replaced with machined aluminium items to continue with the racing theme. To accompany this models special V600 performance AP brake package, new 10J x 18’ ultra light ‘Dymag’ magnesium alloy wheels were fitted as standard.In 550 bhp guise, the on road Performance is astonishing producing 745 Nm (550lb.ft) torque and achieving a 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds and a maximum top speed of the magical 200mph. The cockpit enjoyed similar treatment and featured a drilled aluminium pedal set and matching machined gear knob. The traditional veneers used for the instrument panel, centre consul and door inlays were replaced with titanium finished items together with magnolia-faced instruments dominated buy an enlarged tachometer, almost the size of a dinner plate! The engine was fired by way of the red starter button and the customers name was to feature on the commemorative sill plates although many preferred anonymity. Finally, each car’s owners manual featured an appendix that gave directions to the famous motor racing circuit at LE MANS. Ownership History: This particular example was built in left hand drive to customer order and, according to the factory build sheet, was completed on the 8th February 2000. It was delivered to the first owner by agents, Al Haboor in the Gulf. To date it has only recorded some 2100 kilometres.
