The Ferrari 330, the successor to the legendary 250, was first introduced in 1963. As reporters keenly awaited the unveiling of the new Formula 1 car at a Ferrari press conference, Enzo, in typically flamboyant style, revealed his ulterior motive. It was here that he first introduced, with great fanfare, the new Ferrari – a car designed to withstand the daily stop-and-go, yet also able to deliver the Ferrari hallmark performance on the right kind of road. With sleek coachwork penned by Pininfarina the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 supplemented traditionally aggressive looks with more graceful features. However it was still powered by a 4.0 litre Columbo V12 engine rated at 300bhp at 6,600rpm.
The 330GT 2+2 on offer here a single-headlamp Series II model, the main change from the earlier series 1 cars being that they were equipped with a five-speed gearbox instead of the four-speed with overdrive. It is known to the 330GT Register, which shows that it was delivered new to France in 1966, and has reportedly had only five subsequent owners. Recently 8421 has resided in a large collection of Ferraris, and, according to the vendor, this fine example has always been properly maintained while in his custody.
A 330 GT 2+2 is one of those rare cars which was identified as a true Classic almost from the moment it appeared. Strongly built and remarkably quick, they are commendably untemperamental when correctly maintained; as satisfying to own now as they were when new. Complete with matching number engine, this highly original 330 2+2 is finished in Silver with red hide and is supplied with French registration papers.
