This extremely rare Bentley is an S1 Continental, built by James Young of Bromley. In the past, very rich Bentley customers could specify their own prefered body style, based on a Continental chassis. R-type Continentals were always two-door cars, while S-type Continentals like this car were available as 4-door versions as well. These variants were called "Flying Spur", and in no way comparable to the Standard Steel S-series cars.
The three most important approved coachbuilders were Mulliner, Park Ward and James Young.
The car we offer for sale is a very rare James Young four-light Flying Spur. Only 9 similar cars are made, and this is one of the prettiest coachbuilt designs ever produced on a Continental chassis. The body is handcrafted and made of aluminium, which reduced kerbweight and made the cars more sporty then their standard cousins. These cars are also much lower, and have often a more powerful engine compared to the factory S1.
This Flying Spur is completely restored between 2005 and 2007. This is all documented in a huge file with lots of pictures and eyewatering invoices. In the same 150-pages file we have an impressive amount of correspondence between James Young, Jack Barclay and the first owner during the build process of the car. We had the car completely serviced by one of the UK's leading Bentley specialists, with a complete brake overhaul and a total check-over of the car.
It is now ready to go anywhere without a single problem. This is an absolutely rare and sought-after car, that is almost impossible to find in a similar top condition. This most elegant coachbuilt Bentley is one for the connoisseur, and an extremely sound investment due to its rarity, beauty and condition.
