| Imperial production was never large, but the separate marque more than paid for itself by the prestige it brought Chrysler and the bargaining power it gave Chrysler dealers in competing with Cadillac and Lincoln. Offered in a full array of body styles Imperials were loaded with power assists and accessories and distinguished in 1959 by their free-standing headlight pods and gunsight taillights. The Crown series included a six-way power seat, power windows, vanity mirror and license plate frame as standard equipment. This 1959 Imperial Crown four-door hardtop sedan is attractively finished in white with a black landau-style roof and luxurious red leather upholstery. In addition to its standard equipment it has the automatic beam changer for headlight dimming, a $54.90 option. It has been very nicely restored a few years ago to showroom condition and sensitively used and maintained since then. The paint, interior, chrome and engine bay are very good. The black painted half-landau roof band is particularly effective in adding a hint of luxury and visual distinction to what is a rare (one of just 4,714 built) and satisfying automobile. Today it still projects the image of class and luxury that Chrysler intended.
