Aston Martin DBS, a perfect union between DB6 and V8

The Aston Martin DBS was released in 1967 as the successor to the DB6, a step that terminated the famed DB4-DB5-DB6 series. The DBS adopted the reliable and powerful 4.0 litre six-cylinder inline engine of its predecessor. And it’s precisely this engine that makes this car extra-special.

The six-cylinder DBS is known as an Aston Martin crossover model. The source of power intended for this car – a new 5.3 litre V8 – hadn’t yet been developed by the time the car was launched. Nonetheless, Aston Martin considered it high time to replace the antiquated DB6 with this model.

Because later V8 versions enjoyed greater prestige than this six-cylinder variant, the classic DBS remained overshadowed by its more powerful sibling for a long time. However, this situation is quickly changing, because more and more enthusiasts are rediscovering the DBS for what it is - an extremely attractive classic sports car. It costs less than the DB6, but prices are displaying an upward trend. This makes the DBS a very lucrative investment!

Aston Martin DBS – 1969 in detail

This metallic dark green 1969 DBS is a right hand drive version with matching engine (no. 400/4347/S) and coachwork numbers and an automatic transmission system. Chassis number DBS/5355/R was imported from England in 1987 and was registered in the Netherlands one year later. It then went straight into storage, meaning that the odometer has remained frozen on the 29,967 miles that had been travelled by the car on the opposite shores of the North Sea.

Until recently, the DBS had never felt Dutch asphalt beneath its tyres. In the summer of 2011, the Aston Martin was freed from its captivity and added to the Noble House collection. Remarkably, Dutch registration plates had never been fixed to the car. Of course, we carefully dusted off the unblemished, original plates and mounted them in their places of honour on the DBS. Now, the car is waiting for a loving new owner, who’ll undoubtedly be eager to put the car through its paces, after carrying out the necessary work.
