Editor's Choice: 1964 Alfa Romeo TZ1

With competition-enriched history, aero-focused bodywork and high exclusivity, the Alfa Romeo TZ could credibly be regarded as a mini-250 GTO. One of the 124 built is currently on offer at UK dealer Fiskens.

Arriving on the motoring scene in 1963, the Alfa Romeo TZ quickly began to build a reputation for itself by dominating its class in endurance events at Sebring, Le Mans, the Nürburgring and on the Targa Florio. At the same time as its racetrack endeavours, 100 road-going examples were homologated and these are now some of the most sought-after post-War Alfas. Their exclusivity, combined with that racing pedigree, exquisite Kamm-tailed Zagato coachwork and eligibility for classic events, make them an attractive proposition for a fraction of the price of the legendary Ferrari.

Purchasable TZs come up almost as infrequently, so the 1964 TZ1 offered for sale by Fiskens won’t be around for too long. It’s currently fitted with the 160bhp competition-spec engine, but an original road-spec 112bhp engine is included in the sale. Price: on request.
