Argentinian pairing wins 2012 Mille Miglia retrospective
Claudio Scalise and Daniel Claramunt enjoy the winners' champagne (or spumante, given the location)

Claudio Scalise and Daniel Claramunt won this year’s Mille Miglia behind the wheel of the former’s 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500. The event turned out to be a close battle between them and the second-placed 1939 BMW 328 Mille Miglia Roadster of ten-times winner Giuliano Cane, paired this time with his wife, Lucia Galliani.

In third was a pre-War Aston Martin Le Mans, that of Giovanni Moceri and Tiberio Cavalleri.

The event included the usual multiple-manufacturer entries, with a heavy presence by Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.

The Chairman of Fiat, John Elkann, together with his wife Lavinia Borromeo, enjoyed their first regularity event in the cockpit of a 1954 Fiat 8V. They were classified 152nd.

The Argentinians broke the famous curse of “who leads in Rome, loses in Brescia” by maintaining a healthy lead from the capital to the finish in Northern Italy.

The 2012 event is the fifth organised by MAC Events, and was held in generally good weather.
