Coys' 4.8m-euro, May 2012 Monaco sale
1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL 'Gullwing': Sold for 674,750 euros

London-based auction house Coys has announced a gross figure of 4,761,292 euros for its 12 May, Monaco Historics weekend sale. Leading the way were a 1936 Rolls-Royce Phantom III DHC that fetched 1,144,982 euros and a 674,750 euros, 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL 'Gullwing'.

The sale was held on the Saturday morning at Coys’ regular Espace Fontvieille venue, while practice was taking place for Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix Historique elsewhere in the Principality.

In addition to the pre-War Rolls and superb-looking silver Mercedes, other cars to find new owners included the 1961 Porsche 356 Roadster (98,156 euros), the 1963 Aston Martin DB4 MK V Vantage (238,106 euros) and the 226,910 euros, 1937 Bentley 4¼ Coupé.

Enthusiasts for flat-12 Ferrari motoring were clearly in town, as Coys not only sold both the Ferrari BB 512is (the 1983 example achieving 53,073 euros, the 1982 an impressive 109,352 euros) but also the 1993 Ferrari 512 TR, all 73,524 euros of it.
