Coys 'Spring Classics', London 6 March 2012: Preview

1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2: £90,000 - 110,000

Coys’ next sale will be held at its traditional, central London location, the Royal Horticultural Halls. Titled ‘Spring Classics’, the London-based auctioneers hope to entice new owners behind the wheel of a collectors’ car in the summer.

The 60-car catalogue has as its headlining entries some ‘Refer Dept.’ pre-War cars, a fine 1967 Jaguar E-Type ‘Low Drag Coupé’ (also requiring a call to Coys for the estimate) and two post-War classics sure to break the £100,000 barrier:

The silver 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster (£130,000 - 140,000) is a rare sight in the UK, while the 1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, also metallic grey and LHD, carries an estimate of £90,000 - 110,000.

1968 Porsche 911 SWB 2.0 L - No Reserve: £18,000 - 25,000

Other Porsches to be offered on 6 March include several ‘G’ model cars from the 80s – surely one of the most affordable ways of entering the ‘modern classic’ market – and a short wheelbase 911 from 1968, a 2.0-litre 911L for a ‘No Reserve’ £18,000 - 25,000.

In addition to the semi-competition E-types, there are more standard cars, including a Carmen Red 1964 Series I 3.8 Litre Roadster (£65,000 - 75,000) and a 1969 Series II 4.2 Litre Roadster resplendent in very period Willow Green/Tan leather for £45,000 - 55,000.

1967 Jaguar E-type 'Low Drag Coupe': 'Refer Dept.'

Facel Vega might seem to be an exotic marque in the UK, however, via an active local importer, many cars were sold in the 1960s so RHD Facels are not uncommon. The 1960 HK500, at £58,000 - 70,000, is one such.

Alternatively, there's the ‘No Reserve’ 1967 Bentley T Series Coupé which could prove to be the bargain of the night - although less flambouyant buyers might wish to factor in a respray, as the ‘Sand Titanine’ paintwork is not always to everyone’s taste. For those seeking two-door Rolls/Bentley elegance of a more acceptable hue, there’s always the £18,000 - £22,000, 1979 Rolls-Royce Corniche Coupé.

Prior to the motor cars, Coys will offer a selection of sporting guns and film posters, including Lot 160, 'The Italian Job, Lobby Card Set Set of Eight Lobby cards with famous scenes from the great British film'. Estimate: £200 - £250.
