Vencer Sarthe: The new Dutch striker

For those who regard a new Ferrari or Lamborghini as ‘too common’, there are plenty of interesting alternatives from less familiar manufacturers. The latest aspirant hails from the Netherlands, in the form of the lightweight, V8-engined Vencer Sarthe.

Founded in 2010, it seems that Vencer is seeking to better the efforts of struggling compatriot Spyker Cars by releasing its own low-volume bespoke supercar: the Sarthe. Named after the region in France where the Le Mans 24 Hours is held, the car will be powered by an eight-cylinder motor producing 503bhp and 480lb ft of torque, which apparently facilitates a 0-62mph sprint of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. Power is transmitted from the mid-mounted V8 to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

As now seems to be a prerequisite for a modern supercar, an abundance of carbonfibre is present: all of the Sarthe’s body panels are made of the woven stuff, though the chassis uses a less extravagant steel construction.

The Vencer Sarthe will retail for 265,000 euros; visit the Vencer website for more information.
