| The Mercedes Benz 300SL is a model that requires little introduction. Whether in closed form, with the instantly recognisable gullwing doors, or in roadster form there is no better way to turn heads and stop traffic. The SL became an instant icon the moment it was launched and demand and values show no signs of abating to this day. The practicality of the Gullwing SL was compromised by its high sills which made entry and exit awkward. The roadster did not share this feature and so is a much more elegant and comfortable proposition as a car for regular use. The 300SL roadster on offer here is a very nice example having been in a collection since 2005. While in the care of the current owner it has been well maintained and improved with regular servicing and maintenance carried out by such notable specialists as O'Keefe Restorations and Gordon Dale. As well as sundry small improvements to cosmetics and electrical systems such as instruments and the fuel tank sender, the rear axle was rebuilt in Sep 2007 along with the injection pump and injectors. A new high capacity aluminium radiator was installed in 2010 and the gearbox was rebuilt with new bearings in November 2011. Beautifully presented in DB180 Silver with nicely mellowed Black Leather upholstery and an excellent black hood, this 300SL starts easily and drives like it should with impressive performance and strong brakes. 660 EXD is supplied with a history file comprising of bills and receipts, UK registration, an MoT certificate current until November 2012 and free historic road fund license. A very usable example of the iconic 300SL in roadster form, this is a highly desirable motor car which would make an exhilarating yet extremely practical touring companion.
