30/08/2011 Coys 'The Excellence of Porsche', 4 September 2011: Preview
1965 Porsche 911 to 906 Speciification: £37,000 - 45,000
With perfect timing, given the Stuttgart manufacturer’s impending launch of an all-new model, Coys will offer enthusiasts 20 classic 911s at its forthcoming Cotswolds sale.
The iconic 911, or ‘elfer’ as it’s known with affection in its home country, resists any imitation. Compact, powerful (enough in most cases, although few who have driven a Turbo would describe it as anything other than more than adequate) and quite beautifully constructed, the Stuttgart-built sports cars have a worldwide following all of their own.
1982 Porsche 911 Turbo: £22,000 - 26,000
2006 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S: £70,000 - 80,000
For its ‘Excellence of Porsche' sale on 4 September, Coys will present a catalogue comprising 911s, 356s, a 928 (a 1994 928 GTS, for £11,000 - 15,000), a 914/6 (a 1970 914/6 to GT Specification, at £20,000 - 24,000), a 1981 924 GTS Clubsport and a £7000 - 10,000, 1995 968 Sport.
There’s also a 1987 Porsche 959 ('Refer Dept.' for price).
The 911s span the era from a couple of FIA-papered 1965 cars (a £37,000 - £45,000 example equipped with a 906-spec, ca. 200bhp engine, and an ex-modern-Carrera-Panamericana car at £60,000 - £70,000) to a fire-breathing, 440bhp 2006 911 GT3 Cup S, a championship-winning car for £70,000 - 80,000.
1961 Porsche 356 Super 90 Cabriolet: £45,000 - 55,000
There are also several very à la mode G-series 911s including two Turbos (a Champagne Gold, ex-Top Gear TV show 1986 car for £20,000 - £25,000 and a Guards Red 1982 version for £22,000 - £26,000) and a subtle 1988 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet with full official Porsche service history, in the unusual colour of Granite Green metallic, for an oh-so-reasonable £18,000 - £22,000.
Of the non-911 Porsches, the 356 cabriolet is always a favourite and Coys has two at Cirencester, a RHD 1962 356 B for £70,000 - 75,000 and a LHD 1961 356 Super 90 for £45,000 - 55,000. Finally, on the Porsche front, mention must be made of the 1981 924 GTS Clubsport, a genuine ex-works car with a well-documented history for £95,000 - £110,000.
1966 Jaguar E-type SI 4.2-litre FHC: £40,000 - 48,000
It’s not quite an all-Porsche event, though, as 10 cars are from other manufacturers. These include a 1966 Jaguar E-type Series I 4.2-litre Fixed Head Coupé in THE colour combination of Opalescent Grey/Burgundy hide for £40,000 - 48,000, and a 1953 Bentley R-Type Saloon at £28,000 - 30,000.
2011 ½-scale Porsche Speedster: £3000 - £5000
1988 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet: £18,000 - £22,000
Finishing off on a bit of fun, Porsche-owning dads might wish to give junior a treat for Christmas by bidding on the ½-scale Porsche Speedster, a newly built replica complete with an air-cooled engine, disc brakes and working lights. £3000 - £5000 is the estimate; go on, spoil 'em!
1970 Porsche 914/6 to GT Specification: £20,000 - 24,000
