| Jaguar officially announced the XJ220 in 1989, but it was not until October 1991 that the public got their first look at the car. , It was not what they had been promised, gone was the V12 and the All-Wheel-Drive system. , It was deemed that the V12 was unable to produce the 500 + BHP required for the project and still meet the emission laws. , It was replaced with a 3.5L V6 which was based on the 6R4 Metro engine of the mid 1980&rsquo,s, not though it featured two Garrett T3 Turbochargers and produced a massive 549 BHP and 473 lb-ft of torque. Even though this power was well above expectations, mixed with the other features which were cut from the final car and a poor economic climate at the time of release meant some people didn&rsquo,t want to take the car. , Some even tried to sue Jaguar but lost. , A total of 277 production cars were built at the purpose built facility near Oxford. Jaguar also built a factory race version of the XJ220 which they ran at Le Mans in 1993. , Unfortunately two of the three cars were retired but one did manage to continue to the finish and took a class victory, this was later revoked due to a technical infringement. Jaguar only made 69 cars in and ,with under 8000 miles from new is in exceptional condition and is ready to be enjoyed.
