Harald Ertl’s Dino 246 headlines classics in Dorotheum auction

On 18 October 2014, German auction house Dorotheum will offer more than 50 classic cars alongside almost 270 lots of automobilia. The undoubted star of the show is a Dino 246 formerly owned by late F1 star Harald Ertl…

Private car of the Hesketh pilot

Assigned chassis number 04338, the 1972 Dino 246 was originally shipped from Maranello to a Düsseldorf dealership, where its pretty shape and promise of nimble handling soon convinced Ertl to part with his hard-earned. According to Dorotheum, an old-style FIVA passport lists the F1 driver, German Touring Car Champion and all-round crowd favourite as the first owner; the current custodian has been in possession of the car since 1999, and has reportedly used it in many events since. Dorotheum estimates that the car will fetch between €280,000 and €320,000 when it's put under the hammer at the 28 October sale in Salzburg.
